  • Controlled Burns Aid New England Forests -- "For at least 5,000 years before Europeans arrived in North America, Native Americans periodically set vast swaths of New England on fire. Settlers brought the practice to a halt by the mid-18th century. But today conservationists are again burning the forest to restore the ecosystem and dampen the fire risk to some towns." State Partners to the NEFA

Massachusetts Cultural Council

"The Massachusetts Cultural Council promotes excellence, access, education and diversity in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences, in order to improve the quality of life for all Massachusetts residents and contribute to the economic vitality of our communities."

  • "For more than 30 years, MCC has invested in the cultural life of Massachusetts. The Council receives an annual appropriation from the state legislature. It then makes thousands of grants to non-profit cultural organizations, schools, communities and individual artists, funding programs that use arts, science and the humanities to build strong, diverse, livable communities. The beneficiaries of these programs comprise a cross-section of the population and citizens in each Massachusetts city and town."

Vermont Arts Council

"The Vermont Arts Council was founded in 1964 on a simple and powerful premise: that the arts enrich lives, expand minds, and form a vital thread in the fabric of Vermont community life."

"The Council fosters classical, traditional, and emerging forms of artistic expression. It finds enduring ways to make the arts a part of all Vermont communities, bringing inspiration to Vermont citizens and visitors in every corner of the state. It advocates for and supports the arts as a central part of education for all people."

"The Council functions as a community partner and a catalyst for artists and organizations. It offers professional development opportunities and technical advice, collects and disseminates arts information, and acts as the state's foremost arts advocate."

"In keeping with its community focus, the Council is a grass-roots organization with statewide trustees elected from and by its membership. It is the only not-for-profit state arts agency in the country, and as such is uniquely qualified to unite both public and private resources to serve the following mission: To enrich people's lives and strengthen community through the arts."
